Here are a couple of still camera recommendations

Do you want an inexpensive point and shoot camera that also delivers quality HD video?

Are you ready to rumble? Creatively, that is? Canon’s PowerShot SX130 IS Digital Camera (Black) is more than up to the challenge: it’s got a 12.1MP sensor, a 12x zoom lens (28-336mm equivalent in 35mm, which goes from very wide-angle to super telephoto in a snap), and a vivid 3″ display.

That’s just the basics–there’s also dazzling 720p HD video with stereo sound, fun special effects like Fisheye and Miniatures, and Advanced Smart AUTO that gives you the absolute best exposure for 28 different shooting situations like Portrait, Landscape, Kids & Pets, Low Light, Beach, Foliage, Snow, etc.

There’s manual control over exposure and focus when you want it, image stabilization that controls camera shake when the shutter speed is low, color variations like Super Vivid for magnificently saturated colors or Color Swap (pick a color in your photo and replace it with a different color that you specify), sensitivity up to 1600 ISO, exposure compensation +/- 2 f-stops in 1/3 stop increments, and 6 different exposure control methods. Whew!

An Amazing Point and Shoot Advanced Amateur/Pro Canon

(strictly for Photos)

A great “point and shoot’ camera that doesn’t include extra lenses but still takes beautiful quality photos is Canon’s PowerShot G11 Digital Camera.  The G11 is the best camera in the world today if you consider, price, features, size, design and image quality!  This camera is great for professional photographers as well as advanced amateurs. The coupling of a 10 megapixel CCD sensor and Canon’s DIGIC 4 Image Processor dramatically increases light sensitivity while reducing noise. High ISO 3200 capability makes it possible to capture critical shots even under poor lighting conditions. A 2.8″ Vari-Angle LCD returns to the G-series allowing users to compose and review images at almost any angle.

The only complaint we’ve heard on the G11 is  the placement of the buttons on the right side of the camera.  You could accidentally activate them with your hand.

5x Optical Zoom Lens: With an equivalent zoom range of 28-140mm, Canon’s 5x Optical Zoom Lens captures everything from sweeping landscapes to stunning portraits with ease. Advanced optical technologies ensure consistent brightness and clarity throughout the zoom range, while special coatings minimize ghosting and flare. Also this camera has a fabulous 2.8″ Pure Color LCD screen, the PowerShot G11 makes framing and reviewing photos and video an absolute pleasure. The Vari-Angle design and 461,000 dots of resolution offer spectacular color, contrast, and detail at virtually any angle. Adjustable, durable, and easy to use, the new LCD allows you to compose up high, down low, and everywhere in between.

No matter which camera you get you’ll need a flash memory card.  We also recommend using a Canon Speedlite 270EX Flash for indoor situations with a Bounce Dome (Diffuser) for beautiful indoor portrait lighting. An excellent flash for the price, and the diffuser helps create a softer look.  These are included on our wishlist!
