According to NelsonWire.com, in a monthly view of U.S. Internet activity for top parent companies and web brands, The Nielsen Company found that the average time users spend using Facebook per month grew nearly 10%, topping seven hours. On a side note, the number of those actively using the web grew 3.8%, to slightly more than 203 million users.

Google Wants to Get Even More Sticky

With Facebook leading the pack on Social Media and personal interaction time, Google is rolling out Google Plus, a new social media platform which will allow us to create circles.

Much like in real life, what we might say to our adult friends would be entirely different than what we would say to our neices, nephews or not to mention our business associates who become “friends” inadvertently following every move in our personal lives. Which is something I personally do not mind.

Admittedly, not everyone has the stomach to share their real life stories and many probably should not! G+ provides a more “real life” version of sharing. Most of us find ourselves editing the way we speak depending on our audience which is entirely appropriate. Of course Facebook has provided Fan or Business Pages to try and take care of this little issue.

The pluses of G+ over Facebook

• G+ provides better privacy and well layered grouping – Circles
• G+ does not have annoying applications like facebook (may be yet)
• G+ combines facebook and twitter together when the main features are concerned
• G+ is simple and sweet – May be just because it is new
• G+ uses the google chat for chatting. It is much better than facebook chat (I like the video chat feature)
• Not to be redundant but Google hangout is far better than the Facebook video chat

The minuses of G+ over Facebook

• G+ lacks some features that facebook has (Since it’s new and beta)
• G+ does not have anything special for a typical facebook freak who does not care much about privacy
• G+ does not have an own powerful branding as a social network (It’s a sub-product of google and not a mere social network brand like “facebook”) However, this is how it could be released because a unique branding is too weeker to compete facebook
